In Alfresco Share 5.2 we've made user experience improvements to three main areas: creating content, search and managing sites.
In content creation the main improvements are around uploading folders into My Files, Shared Files, and Site Document Libraries. You can now drag and drop folders directly into the Share user interface. You can also create shortcut links to a file or folder instead of copying it several times to different locations.
In content search the key improvements are around searches in a site using the Search input box at the top of Share screen. There is also search term highlighting in the search results page when it is found in a filename, title, and description. You can now also do bulk file actions - users can select multiple results of a search, and perform file actions such as copying, moving, deleting, and downloading as a zip file.
In managing sites the focus is on an increased flexibility to customize sites. For example, you can configure which site feature (Document Library, Wiki, an so on) is the default home page. Site Managers can manage requests to join a site through a notification they receive when another user requests to join their moderated site. There's also a new (aikau) creation dialog.
In Alfresco Share 5.2, there are two main improvements for creating content. You can now drag and drop folders directly into the Share user interface and you can also create shortcut links to files and folders.
Users can upload folders into My Files, Shared Files and Site Document Libraries by dragging and dropping the folder directly into the desired location on the Share user interface. Dropping a folder will automatically create the folder, its subfolders, and all files within the folder structure.
This feature is only available in Google Chrome as other browsers do not currently provide the necessary support.
Note: some hidden system files are automatically excluded from the upload process, including desktop.ini, thumbs.db and .DS_Store.
When copying a file to a different location a user can choose to create a Shortcut Link in the destination location instead of creating a copy. When a user opens a shortcut link they're redirected to the original file's location. Users without permission to access the original file won't be able to open a shortcut link successfully.
In Alfresco Share 5.2, there are three improvements to content search. Search within the current site, search term highlighting and bulk file actions on search results.
When you type a search query into the Live Search input box at the top of Share, you can narrow the results to files from the just Site you're in. You can be switched back to displaying all results, and your selected option is also carried through to the full results page after pressing Enter.

The search term entered by users is highlighted in the Search Results page when it's found in a filename, title or description This helps users find the content they are looking for. The search results page also extracts and displays a snippet of relevant text from a document that contains the search term.
In the Search Results screen users can select multiple results and perform file actions such as copying, moving, deleting, and downloading as a zip file.
In Alfresco Share 5.2, there are several improvements that help you manage sites. Increased flexibility to customize sites, improvement to help handling requests to join a site and there's also a new (aikau) creation dialog.
Site Managers can customise their site to remove the Site Dashboard if they want, and also configure which site feature (Document Library, Wiki, and so on) is the default home page.
