What happens when the Alfresco SSL certificate expires?

HI All,

Alfresco community 4.0.a ships with a self signed SSL certificate. I note that the certificate was issued 18/08/2011 and will expire on 17/08/2012.

Since Alfresco uses SSL internally can anyone tell me what effect the expiry of this certificate will have?

Does Alfresco/Share plod along regardless possibly with expired certificate warnings in the log file? Or does everything come to a screaming halt until the cert is renewed?

I recently got a taste of what the certificate expiration means: the search function doesn't return any results! It should be obvious to me, though, if I had read this post.
