Version 2.1 UI is messy

The new (i) information icon in version 2.1 makes the ui looks messy. Why isn't the icon grouped with the rest of the icons ie cut, copy, edit?

I think all of these action icons should be removed and instead be accessed by a right-click on the file. This would be consistent with other applications.

The only icons that should show up by the files should be icons representing special status and states that the file can be in. Showing the discussion icon when there is a discussion connected is good.

Now you can access some actions directly with icons, others are available through more actions but to see all actions you need to click on View details. That's confusing!

Sounds like a fun customisation job to me! Actions can be configured on off, it's also easy to put actions into menus and groups (action menu groups drop down when clicked like the More… or Create… menus). Is it also possible to code up and configure in new view renders to render a different style of view (like we already have Details, Icons, List…)

Not many web-apps use right-click menus - you are using a web-browser after all…

Yes, I could customize our version but I still think that the default installation should be changed.

Many ECM and WCM systems uses right-click and isn't Alfresco supposed to take the step to web 2.0?

Two other dialogs that are hard to use is the way to select users and categories.

A web 2.0 approach to the select user would be a search field that automatically displays the result while you type. Also you should be able to select people by double-click or drag and drop.

When I'm supposed to select an category (or other selections that works the same way) I always click one the linked text instead of the radio button and I end up with the sub categories. If the parent category was shown with the sub-categories and select by default it would ease the selection a lot. I don't think I'm the only one doing this mistake.

Also, why do I have to click twice to start the category selection? First on the button Select… and then on "Click here to select a Category".
