Updating of Documents without increasing version number

I have a client who wants minor (ie spelling errors) to be done on documents without a version increase.

Is this possible / been done?

They key issue is the ability to monitor document usage and minimizing fragmentation of documents for auditing purposes.

You can  disable versioning for all content in the repository

pen the alfresco-global.properties file.
Add the following property:
version.store.enableAutoVersioning=true
and restart

Thanks for that, will that allow versioning for some content?

I was hoping to add a third option to the dialog asking for minor/major version increase that would be "no version change"

no ,if you disable versioning for all content in the repository,all content will not create versions.
Perhaps there is no direct method to implement this function,I am afraid you 'd have to do some customizing development.
