Hi guys,

Need help to resolve the above error on a Windows platform, when trying to view office documents (doc, docx etc.)

Used this

Alfresco document preview doesn’t work for MS Office files (.doc, .docx, .ppt .pptx etc) although it...

and

Alfresco 4.2f - This Document Can't Be Previewed.

- no result

The install is very buggy. file winserv.exe is missing, so I had to install 4.0.b and copy that file from there.

However on 4.0.b under Windows and on 5.1.f under Linux this feature seems to be working. I have not tried to upgrade with alfresco-community-installer-201609-EA-win-x64.exe yet, because upgrade process is very sophisticated.

After installing the service I've tried to manually run it, automatically, run before and after starting Alfresco - no results.

Alfresco use FFMPEG to create video thumbnail and do transformations ,you need install ffmpeg on your server and it to your systems PATH environmental variable.

No you don't need to be switch to linux ,alfresco also works well on windows.

1.If your tomcat version is tomcat 7 ,you should first check if folder C:\alfresco-community\tomcat\shared\classes and C:\alfresco-community\tomcat\shared\lib exists

Open the C:\alfresco-community\tomcat/conf/catalina.properties file. make sure following settings exists

shared.loader=${catalina.base}/shared/classes,${catalina.base}/shared/lib/*.jar

2.Check your alfresco-global.propertie is placed at C:\alfresco-community\tomcat\shared\classes

3.you should not enable jodconverter,you can only use ooo so

set jodconverter.enabled=false

ooo.enabled=true

By the way file alfresco/templates/webscripts/org/alfresco/repository/thumbnail/thumbnail.get.js is not missing ,it is packaged in C:\alfresco-community\tomcat\webapps\alfresco\WEB-INF\lib\alfresco-remote-api-***.jar.

Thanks for your reply and desire to help.

Unfortunately, all settings #1, #2 were correct, changed back #3, restarted tomcat - same issue. Remember, that it worked in a future release when repository was in it's default location. When the location was changed to a network smb share I got exactly same error. However it did not happen on Linux but instead of smb share I used NFS, but I would like to fix here rather than migrate to linux.

I checked some posts on this, tried to enable "Save thumbnail" checkbox while saving word document - nothing. The first several strings with error in alfresco.log are here:

On other articles they say this is not a bug but looks like it is. I was easily able to reproduce the issue on a fresh new install changing only dir.root parameter and pointing it to \\server\share\alt_data.

Hopefully you or someone have other ideas on what's going on and how to win this battle.

I’ve stopped alfresco, deleted old log, started, was waiting for couple of minutes to let alfresco finish loading, then went to My Files, opened a document, got “document cannot be previewed”, stopped alftresco and got the log.

And on a test document which I saved with checkbox “Save thumbnail” enabled, I can see it thumbnail but it still cannot be previewed – just FYI.
