Hi guys,

Need help to resolve the above error on a Windows platform, when trying to view office documents (doc, docx etc.)

Used this

Alfresco document preview doesn’t work for MS Office files (.doc, .docx, .ppt .pptx etc) although it...

and

Alfresco 4.2f - This Document Can't Be Previewed.

- no result

The install is very buggy. file winserv.exe is missing, so I had to install 4.0.b and copy that file from there.

However on 4.0.b under Windows and on 5.1.f under Linux this feature seems to be working. I have not tried to upgrade with alfresco-community-installer-201609-EA-win-x64.exe yet, because upgrade process is very sophisticated.

After installing the service I've tried to manually run it, automatically, run before and after starting Alfresco - no results.

Alfresco use FFMPEG to create video thumbnail and do transformations ,you need install ffmpeg on your server and it to your systems PATH environmental variable.

Installing FFMPEG either 32 or 64 bit version (static/shared - does not matter) to c:\ffmpeg, adding it to PATH variable, rebooting Windows 10x64 did not work for me. I still have errors in alfresco.log:

That worked but only for fixing startup above error and for video thumbnails. However office documents still cannot be previewed - same error in browser. Looks like additional strings should be added to global properties file or some other actions are required. Can someone tell what else should be done to successfully preview MS Office documents?

In addition I noticed that there is no any directory C:\alfresco-community\tomcat\webapps\alfresco\WEB-INF\classes\alfresco\templates\webscripts\org\alfresco\repository

in my installation.

I tried to copy it from previous Alfresco (where preview works fine) but got "Something is missing error" and was unable to see the whole site at all. Just left thumbnail and then solr folders there - it caused more errors than before. Looks like either something is missing or some links are broken, so have no idea how to fix it.

Finally, if to change dir.root to a network share location, the early build version shows exactly same error as an old one. So this is the final issue. Should I switch to Linux instead?
