some question about user management

I want to use Java api of Activiti Engine , the Activiti Engine is the embed component of the project.
we has another user management system,  if i do not put the user information into the Activiti Engine, is there  any problems?
such as task assignment,  if the assigned user is not in Activiti Engine ,is there any problem?
