Preview not working for DOCX format?

Hi everyone,

Like to check. Is it possible to view DOCX file when i upload the document to the alfresco 4.0b community edition? I can view doc and pdf, but not docx.

I had updated to latest openoffice too.

Anyway I am using the mac standalone version for my mac book pro time being. I want to make sure it works for mac for evaluation, then only deploy to ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64 bits server for test run.

I had updated to ImageMagick as well as the swftools things. No difference Smiley Sad

Hope it works for both mac and ubuntu server. Coz most of my documents are in docx format as well as xlsx and pptx.

Any help? Thanks.

All MS Office documents are converted using Open Office, both for .doc and .docx.
So if you can open you MS document using Open Office outside of Alfresco you should get an ok result.

I also recommend testing LibreOffice, I think their conversion filters are slightly better.

hmm.. i am referring to the preview feature when you click view on browser thing? i want to see the docx on the browser without downloading and open on my desktop.

Ok, there is a menu option for that, view in browser. If the document is not displayed inline in your browser, then it is out of Alfresco Share control, it is the settings in your browser that determines if it is still downloaded instead of displayed inline. It is the browser that loads the original file, and displays it using MS Office components, has nothing to do with Open Office.

so how can i ensure it will display inline within the browser? when i say display inline means the docx documents will be displayed within the preview (probably in a flash preview thing just like previewing doc and pdf) that's what i mean? probably i didn't explain it clearly earlier.

if it is a browser setting, what should i do to get docx/pptx/xlsx to show inline inside the browser itself?

or what else can i do to make it work?

any help?

But that is what I answered the first time, docx will show up in the Share preview (document details view, it is flash based) if you can preview doc files there, then all your config is correct. There may be exceptions when the Open Office converter cannot handle docx, but mostly you will get something if config is correct. That previewer can be maximized to fill the whole window or full screen.
If yet again that wasn't what you want, then you have to configure your browser, try google how to http://www.google.com/search?q=view+docx+embedded+in+browser
