Hi all,

I want to install alfresco 5.0.d manually on Xubuntu 14.10 64-bit with Tomcat7. In the catalina.out logfile I get the following message:

log4j:ERROR setFile(null,true) call failed.
java.io.FileNotFoundException: alfresco.log (Keine Berechtigung)
        at java.io.FileOutputStream.open(Native Method)

I set the following parameter in /var/lib/tomcat7/shared/classes/log4j.properties and /var/lib/tomcat7/webapps/alfresco/WEB-INF/classes/log4j.properties to

###### File appender definition #######
log4j.appender.File=org.apache.log4j.DailyRollingFileAppender
log4j.appender.File.File=/var/log/tomcat7/alfresco.log
log4j.appender.File.Append=true
log4j.appender.File.DatePattern='.'yyyy-MM-dd
log4j.appender.File.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout
log4j.appender.File.layout.ConversionPattern=%d{yyyy-MM-dd} %d{ABSOLUTE} %-5p [%c] [%t] %m%n

The access rights of /var/log/tomcat7 are 777. After I started tomcat I can find following files in /var/log/tomcat7

-rw-r–r– 1 tomcat7 tomcat7  45354 Mär 29 14:41 alfresco.log
-rw-r–r– 1 tomcat7 tomcat7   8273 Mär 29 14:41 catalina.2015-03-29.log
-rw-r–r– 1 tomcat7 root    215314 Mär 29 14:41 catalina.out
-rw-r–r– 1 tomcat7 tomcat7    468 Mär 29 14:41 localhost.2015-03-29.log
-rw-r–r– 1 tomcat7 tomcat7      0 Mär 29 14:41 localhost_access_log.2015-03-29.txt
-rw-r–r– 1 tomcat7 tomcat7   8500 Mär 29 14:41 solr.log

Can you tell me how I can disable the error.

Thank you for your help.

best regards
martin

What user is Alfresco running under? If its not tomcat7 it won't be able to write to alfresco.log
