Lucene-indexes Directory

I am using community 2.1 and my lucene-indexes are constantly growing about a thousand directories weekly . I have been using fullindex rebuild to adress the problem until now but as the repository is getting bigger it is taking more than 12 hours to rebuild the indexes.
Does anyone know why is this directory growing constantly ?

Help would be appreciated

We are also having a very similar problem. Our lucene-indexes directory is HUGE. There seem to be hundreds of thousands of small files. I, too, am curious on why this directory is constantly growing?

Is there any way to trim the size, or any options we can set to prevent it from growing out of hand?

In one of our environments, the alf_data directory is 1.4 GB. However, all the non-lucene directories take up approximately 175 MB. This means the lucene-indexes and backup-lucene-indexes directory take up around 1.3 GB! That's quite a size, especially in relation to the actual data we have in Alfresco.

Before starting a rebuild process, did you empty the lucene-directories?
That would be alf_data/lucene-indexes and alf_data/backup-lucene-indexes. Under Linux, "rm -R *" would do this.

Actually, now after rebuilding the indexes (on a different machine though), the total # of files is 942.

Went from 645849 file to 942. Amazing….

Do you have any custom java code deployed to your alfresco instance (e.g. custom java action or something similar)?

Nope, no custom java code. Just customized XML files for NTLM authnetication and clustering.

Have you got any exceptions in the log?
