Individual backup & restore solution

Hello everyone,
I'm planning to use Alfresco as a shared filesystem folder. The technical part is done here, and I'm coming for some infos.
I need to be able to backup Alfresco's files everyday. It's quite easy using tier-tools, but…
I also need to be able to restore files. And not ALL files : I need to be able to restore one file from a whole backup.
Alfresco seems to have a particular way of dealing with files, and I'm not sure it will allow me to restore a single file when needed.
Does it ? What tool could I use ?
Thanks in advance.

No you can't restore a single file with alfresco.

However alfresco has its own "trash can" can so you should be able to restore a single file from within alfresco itself.

In case of massive backup (ie full backup every night), there is no way to come back to a single file ? I don't think the trash can will be usefull to me as I suppose it'll need to restore the full system in order to access the trash can…?

You can do an incremental backup of the content store.  Whether you do a "massive backup" is up to you.

You can't restore just a single file.  If you just plonk an old file from backup into the content store it will not work.   There is no metadata for the file.   That's why alfresco manages the deletion itself, it can restore metadata along with the content.

Hello

What do you mean by incremental backup ?
Should we use replication service for that ?
Could you please explain the benefits of an incremental backup ?

Thanks

What about restoring a previous version and copying all files modified since this version onto it, excepted from the one we want to restore ? would that work or would there be conflict ?

No.  Alfresco manages versions as well.

The only "admin" you should do with your content store is backup for disaster recovery and clean up the junk in contentstore.deleted every so often.    Otherwise leave the content store alone.
