I've got an interesting case of a file that has gone missing. Doing searches on keywords specific to it and even trying the exact file name will not find it. Does not appear in the site file list that it was created in either. I've even searched the trash for it. How do I know it's really a thing and not just a figment of my imagination? Well, because there's a published public link to it that still works fine!
For the moment, we extracted the information from the public link version and uploaded a new version with a new name (it wouldn't let us use the old name as it said it's in use!). Long term though, I'd like to clear out this phantom document. Suggestions on finding and removing it?

I'd try using the Admin Console/Node Browser and browsing to the folder you want to go to and having a look there - or doing a search there.
I assume you've got the nodeRef from the published link and know where the file should be.
Outside of the admin console if you enter [hint:useCQ]
in the search box then you will be using the database instead of the solr indexes which might give an indication that the solr indexes need rebuilding

Unfortunately, I don't see the noderef anywhere on the public link page. I did try using the link code and hunt around in the node browser, but came up empty.
Good to know about the search hint, but that also came up empty. It's as if the file does not exist, yet somehow that public link works...
