How should I start with Development for Alfresco Enterprise?

I have 0 experience with Alfresco as I am a .NET developer (Microsoft SharePoint, Windows etc.)
Now I have a new project to work on that requires me to do these:
- Replace existing Data Layer that works with Documentum

So I need to know how can I use the Alfresco SDK (Linux)

I want to develop the pieces on my Windows 7 PC and invoke/modify Alfresco repository on a server.

Example:
I want to write code pieces where I would be able to create a document, a folder, doc library, create audit, create workflow etc using the SDK (using API from Alfresco DLL)

This may sound totally weird in Alfresco but that is my high level view.

Could anyone please help me with right pointers on this.

First you can check User Guide to get to know about features alfresco provide.
Then you can refer developer Guide (http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Developer_Guide) to start with development.
You can always post your queries in this forum if you face any challenges during learning or development.
There are also various books available in market to learn alfresco.
