Hello guys,

I m just discovering Alfresco, I've installed the latest package and browsed the online documentation but I'm not sure about Alfresco features regarding roles/group and documents.

My requirement is simple, I need to create 3 users groups :

- Administrator
- "Super Managers"
- "Managers"
- Simple Users

"Super Managers" should be able to share Documents with "Managers group" and individual users that belong to "Simple Users group"
"Managers" should be able to share documents with "Manager group" and  users that belong to "Simple Users group"

Beside this I would like to allow deletion operation on the documents only by owners and member of the same group (>= "Manager")

I dont know if it's possible with alfresco out of the box, and I would appreciate any feedback, tutorial or everything that could help !

Thank you

Its not clear what you mean by "share with".

But yes you can do this sort of thing to control who can read or update a document.

Thank you for your quick awnser mrogers !

My current need is realy simple, I take a concrete example :

- A Teacher (Manager) can put documents (ex : Lesson support) for his students (Simple User) with Read-Only right.
- Teacher can put documents for other Teachers (ex : Test Results) to consolidate results with Read/Write rights for Teachers and hidden for students.

On the other part I'm reading docs about numeric signing which is my second requirement
- College supervisor (Super Manager) sends a legal document to each teacher and want them to numeric sign the document after reading it, for legal requirement.

I've found several modules that could do it, and I m now looking for a easy sample application because Alfresco seems to cover a very large scope of features.

Thanks

You can set permissions on folders and documents and sites in lots of different ways.   Here's one approach using the out of the box roles and Alfresco Share:

Create a site for "Lesson Support".   Students have Consumer access so they can only read.   Teachers have Contributor or Collaborator role so they can read/write.

Create another private site "Test Results" that students do not have access to.   Again Teachers have Contributor or Collaborator role.

This is a bit harder, but as you point out there are lots of options.  Does each teacher have a private key?   The secure management of that will be the biggest hurdle, especially if you need it to be legally watertight.   Anyway whatever solution you come up with there are options.

Thank you for your advises, I'm trying to setup your solution right now. Regarding documents signing I guess the private key solution is the simpliest way to sign pdf documents. I'm investigating about an opensource solution..

I will give my feedback if I successfuly put my solution in place Smiley Happy
