google docs?

I was under the understanding that the latest builds of 3.3 support editing of documents on-line with google docs.  Is there something I have to configure to be able to say directly edit a word doc thru Share?

Thanks.

I basically did that as I followed the first part of kevin's post.  Does it launch google docs in a new browser, or in share physically?  Or just save the doc to google docs and you manually go there to edit the doc?  Not I have a proxy server between me and the internet so not sure if that's  factor although there are no errors in the catalina.out logs.  Not sure if there are some settings for log4j that are more verbos for Google.

Once you create the 'shell' of the document in the Share interface, there is (on the doc preview page, right-hand side) a command to "Checkout to Google Docs".  You would select that, wait a few seconds (with the floating status window) until it was checked out.  I _think_ it then gave you a URL to go to Google Docs to edit, but can't quite be certain… could be a URL at the top of the doc-preview page, OR a cmd on the right-hand-side - it did _not_ automatically launch, and you edit in a separate browser window/tab, it does not share anything with Share (no embed, nothing).  Once checked out to Google Docs, there is a command on same doc-preview windows to "Checkin from Google docs", at which point the document is pulled back into Share/Alfresco, SWF preview updated, etc (and version number incremented, very nice).  Note that in Google Docs, it creates a folder structure within Google Docs for the checked-out doc, such as "Sites/MyNewSite/documentLibrary/folder1/name-of-document", and when checked back in, it is NOT left within GoogleDocs, but removed.

Whatever it's supposed to do all I get when I check out to google docs is "'googledoc' is being checked out to Google Docs" where googledoc is the name of the doc I made.  Nothing ever shows up in google so unless there are proxy settings I need specifically for this, it doesn't seem to work or not logging anything that's failing anyway.

Probably not you - just tried another nightly build, not working for me either.  So either it is 'broken', or turned off in another way….

Perhaps you could try turning the logging on using the line …

log4j.logger.org.alfresco.repo.googledocs=debug

.. in your log4j.properties file.

It should give you some more information about what's going on during the checkout.

Cheers,
Roy

jriker1, seems to be working in the most-recent nightly build (after editing the google.properties file)….

Hi All,

Is the google docs functionality available in the latest community release of alfresco?

Cheers

I'm told 3.3G will (finally - after a series of unexpected issues) be released by Monday.

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks Mike, is it fairly easy to upgrade to 3.3G?

Thanks
Matt

Alfresco 3.3G is going out shortly (end of the week) - so what you have taken from HEAD should indeed be fixed and working.

Cheers,
