I'm using version 2.1 community. I changed the repository.properties file as suggested by other threads but still got an error. The values are correct since I have other test systems working properly.

In the other system in which is working I also had to modify a bean to add some parameters.

Adding the following to the bean:

But sadly couldn't figure out where to search if the entry is missing.

Mmm… if your problem is to know how to send mails from Alfresco to secure SMTP servers, try this:

In your custom-repository.properties file configure:


mail.host=<the SMTP host>
mail.port=25
mail.username=<a valid mail account>

I think there may be something else going on here. I have set up a rule to email everyone of a space, another rule to notify just a specific user (specifically me), and yet another one to send an email to people in a particular group whenever a document is added. The email to me works fine. This ONLY seems to happen for emails to GROUP_EVERYONE as it works for individuals and other groups. The problem occurs in both Alfresco 2.9 Community edition and the 2.2 Enterprise edition, both Windows and Linux.

In order to replicate this bug, here is what I did:

1. Download and install Alfresco 2.9 Community Edition or 2.2 Enterprise Edition
2. Edit the custom-repository.properties file in the tomcat/shared/classes/alfresco/extension directory to add the SMTP server information
3. Create a test user
4. Create a test space
5. Invite the test user to the test space to make sure that the email system is working
6. Now create an Inbound rule for all items, that sends an email to the EVERYONE group
7. Add a file to the space
8. Check the Tomcat logs

In my Tomcat logs I see this for the email to GROUP_EVERYONE:

I had similar problems, I think in the end what fixed it was making sure that
the admin user has a proper email address.

Has anyone solved this yet?

Jeez I have spent days and days and days trying to get what should be a simple smtp e-mail to work.
Is there any chance of putting this configuration as part of the application as configuration data to save dummies like me spending the whole vacation on it?

There are quite clearly some issues on this, I don't know if it is because it is not documented in one place, or if there are problems with the code?

I have put everything in for gmail as has been suggested and get absolutely nowhere.
I'm loosing all will to live, and I haven't even got into the product yet.
