Create Timer Events Dynamically and attach to the event ..

I am very new to Activiti, so this question might sound very silly - please accept my apology for that.

I have a basis flow start–>user event —stop.

Here, what I wanted to do is to attach a timer or something similar to the user task. Once the user task is assigned to a user/group then the clock will tick and expire the task if the task is not being completed within the time duration of the timer/clock.

Is that possible, if then how to do it. Any sample flow or test cases would be really helpful.

yes, i am trying to use the timer. But i want timer to start only once the user task is active, rather assigned to a user ? is there any way to do that.
