In our repository, the global Alfresco data's folder is 250 Gbyte and the contentstore.deleted sub-folder is 55 Gbyte !

Periodically we delete the Trash Folder using the Alfresco's UI but I just discovered that in contentstore.deleted folder there are sub-folders for example named 2012/2/29 or so …

Please, what maintenance or reconfiguration we have to do to empty the contentstore.deleted sub-folder ?

We are using Alfresco CE 4.0d on Windows Server 2008 R2, Java 1.6, MySQL 5.1

Thank you in advance for any help !

After content is no longer managed from alfresco (so after you empty out your trash) it is moved to contentstore.deleted.    Then you can safely delete it or back it up.

I suggest you to read this post to understand how delete is managed in Alfresco:
