Cannot search on scanned documents

Hi,

I am new very new to Alfresco and have installed the 4.0 community edition. All seemd to install fine on a SLES11 VM (50GB) but a problem was noticed when I try to search for docuements. It does not matter what search string I enter it always returns 'no documents found'. Has anyone experienced this issue before or does anyone know if there are global settings that can be changed.

Scanned documents are images (even in pdf:s, they are embedded), and you cannot fulltext search images. So you have to do ocr on those images before you can do fulltext search. And ocr is not part of Alfresco, but there may be third party addons for that.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately we already do OCR on each document at the scanner end. With our search we cannot even search on the name of the document, it just returns the no documents message.

Hi gutterpunk,

How do you import the documents to Alfresco? Have you looked at the properties of the documents making sure that the phases you use for searching are correct? It also might be issue with permissions to the docuements. Keep in mind that it takes a while to index all the documents and make them available for search.
