I think there will be any problem on installiing it, but why are you trying to install such a old version?

I'd recommend to you to install the 4.2.f version, which is the most stable version so far.

can I know which type of problem will occur while installing it? As we need to install 4.0.x versions, not 4.2.x

Hi,
Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this as I am new to this.

I am trying to install Alfresco on a QNAP NAS and would like some help.

I have been trying to get the following combination to work with the instructions given in this post but Alfresco will not start:

QNAP TS-451 with firmaware version 4.1.1
Tomcat 7.0.5
JRE 8.0.1
The QNAP built-in implementation of MySQL server
Alfresco Community 5.0a
MySQL connector 5.1.32

I have also tried to install Alfresco Community 4.2f but without success.

Should the above combination work?

One other problem I have noticed is that the logs are not being updated each time I try to start Alfresco. There are entries but they only appear to be as a result of the initial installation.

These are the first few lines from the alfresco.log file so there appears to be a problem here:

Any help would be much appreciated.

From your logs…

Hi,
Thanks for getting back to me.

Is this the MySQL account or the user account on the NAS?

I have the user 'alfresco' setup in MySQL and I can connect to the DB with this account externally via ODBC on a Win 7 machine but for some reason Alfresco does not appear to be able to log in.  I can also create and populate tables manually in the Alfresco database.

I have also tried configuring Alfresco with the default MySQL root/admin account but it still will not login.

I have deleted the database and started again.  The Alfresco user has all permissions on the alfresco db.

Also, I have an "alfresco" user account configured on the NAS with R/W permissions to the Alfresco share.

Do I need to change anything in the alfresco-jmxrmi.password file?  Where should it be located?

I stated the incorrect JRE version in the above post, this was the QNAP package version.  I have now downloaded and installed the headless JRE 7.

When I try to start Alfresco, the alf-data folder is created in the Alfresco share as is the contentstore.deleted folder but they are empty.  Nothing is created in the MySQL database.

I have also tried the installation with PostgreSQL but without success.

Although Alfresco is configured to use port 7080, I changed the default port on the NAS to something to eliminate the possibility of a conflict but this made no difference.

I have reverted back to Alfresco 4.2f for as this appears to be a more stable release so once I get it working, hopefully I will not have to upgrade it for a while.

I am obviously missing something.

Would be great if QNAP released an Alfresco package, there appears to be quite a lot of demand for it on the forums.

Thanks,
Dave

It's the db connection that's the problem.

Thanks, I have tried various ways of trying to get this to work.

I have the correct username and password with empty schema configured in MySQL.

I have tried various different settings in the alfresco-global properties file to try and get this to work.

I have used the connect that comes with the Alfresco 4.2f package.

What else could I try?

Here are the logs

If there is anything else that would help, please let me know.

Thanks again,
Dave

That's a port conflict on 50500.    Find out what is already running on 50500 or change alfresco's rmi services port.
