Hi there,

I have just changed values in this file:
/opt/alfresco/tomcat/webapps/alfresco/WEB-INF/classes/alfresco/web-client-config.xml

I changed some listing values from 10 - 100

I did /opt/alfresco/alfresco.sh stop
then I did /opt/alfresco/alfresco.sh start

and now I keep getting this error:

HTTP Status 404 - /alfresco/

type Status report

message /alfresco/

description The requested resource (/alfresco/) is not available.
Apache Tomcat/5.5.20

Nothing on my end changed and I can see alfresco is in the tomcat/webapps directory

root@www:~# ls -la /opt/alfresco/tomcat/webapps/alfresco
total 44

drwxr-xr-x  2 root root 4096 2007-04-22 11:03 wsdl

but it simply won't load the page.
Where do I start to fix this?

Thanks guys,
Winston

I have been checking some more, but I also don't see port 21 or 139 open by alfresco, any help from the alfresco engineers would be greatly appreciated!

I made a simple change to one little file.
My server won't start now, and I fail to understand why.

My server doesn't open the port 21, it doesnt open the port 139
The database is running, apache is running and none of my configs changed.
Where can I look to solve this?

The last log I see in the alfresco directory is this:

So here is what I do!

1. stop apache, alfresco, kill java and make sure no sockets are in use.

Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address           Foreign Address         State
tcp        0      0 127.0.0.1:41766         0.0.0.0:*               LISTEN

Active UNIX domain sockets (servers and established)

as you can see all sockets are clean.

2. now i start alfresco

/opt/alfresco/alfresco.sh start

Now I watch the logs,

here they are:

everything goes wrong with this
SEVERE: Error listenerStart

this has given me major pains in the past and its still doing it.
why is this such a big issue?
if this listener doesnt start then you are left with a useless server, now i cant reach my data even over port 80 or 8080 just because the listener failed to open port 21 and 139

this is not good to me at all and i believe that improvements can be made.
as for my problem, see above, still not fixed!

people are phoning asking, what's up, and the truth is i dont know.
my server was working, one consultant requested that i increase the listing from 10 to 100, i did this, restarted the server and since then its been a down hill slide

guys, really now, this is not on!

Hi Winston,

Have you tried changing the setting back and restarting Alfresco, or better still restoring the original config file? That might get your server back up and working again.

If you have already tried this, are you sure that nothing else changed on the server?

Hey Mark,

I have reversed the changes.
These lines are the lines I touched.
in this file

I just changed the 10's to 100's
Thought it was gonna be a simple "in and out"

Now my server is down and I'm not sure why.

The catalina log file gives me this first warning and I'm worried about this,
SEVERE: Error listenerStart

From there it's a downhill slide..

My setup is simple. I have Apache listening on 80 (Apache is fine)
handing requests to via mod_jk to tomcat port 8080
I have not touched apache or tomcat, they were working perfect until I stopped and start.

Think it could be java? I am running it on ubuntu but I havn't done any updated lately though.

Any advice is most welcome as I kinda have to fix this super quick.
It's a fairly busy server and well, my phone is ringing all the time now.
:x

Hi Winston,

The error message saying that the alfresco application has already been stopped is a key point here.  You cant access anything because the web app (Alfresco) is not running due to previous errors.

Spring configuration can be picky – any when it blows up (spring), it blows up in spectacular form.  Malformed spring and configuration files can cause the issues you are seeing.

I agree, you should consider replacing your install with a fresh install and then make your changes one by one testing at each change that you have not corrupted the configuration.  You don't appear to have made many changes – so this is a feasible approach – and this approach is going to make it clear what change broke the app.

i don't think one by one test is a good idea , it takes times!
why Alfresco members don't post the reference document for this issue ?

Good morning gentlemen,

Thank you for the posts, I really appreciate the fresh minds and the support.
I will follow rdanner's advice and do a clean install. This means I will:

-stop tomcat
-remove everything in the webapps directory, leaving ROOT
-copy over a fresh alfresco.war
-start tomcat

I am leaving my alf_data alone as it's extremely valuable to me, and it's over 20GB

I am going to try this now and will post my results,
is this the correct way to "re-install"?
