After the license expires the system will remain usable but will be locked in read-only mode.  Amongst other things this will allow you to read the content out of the system at your leisure.

As for the database, if you didn't explcitly configure a database Alfresco will use an embedded database by default (Hypersonic on 2.x, Derby on 3.x).  The persistent storage for the embedded databases are stored in subdirectories of the "alf_data" directory.

Cheers,
Peter

Hello,
Thanks a lot for your solution, but still I have a doubt that the sub-directories which you have mention under alf_data consist of directories as audit.contentstore,  contentstore,  contentstore.  hsql_data , lucene-indexes. I have gone into hsql_data and found two files in it as alfresco.properties and alfresco.script. In alfresco.script files there are some SQL commands, now I am not getting how to configure or use them. :? Please do help me out……

custom-repository.properties should define what database type to use and where it is either locally or on the network

the code for many database types is in there.  you will need the one that is uncommented eg no # sign in front of it

hi all,

I'm new on Alfresco and i had a little problem when i was doing a backup on alfresco, which was related with the database.
My version is alfresco community 3.4.d, and I was trying to do a cold backup. I followed the instructions presented on wiki.alfresco about backups, but when i tryed to restore to another machine with the same version it didn't work.
I had a lot of questions about how to backup the database files, and since I couldn't find clear documentation about it, I made a search and found this post. From what I read here, i thought that the default database was contained in the alf_data and therefore no need to backup any database; backing up the alf_data was enough. obviously it didn't work when restoring.
But then I tried to backup the mysql folder, just in case, and when i restored to the other machine, it worked fine.
So i noticed that when we install alfresco, he already uses a mysql database by default, no needing to configure another the mysql db.
this post isn't really a question, just some share of knowledge for beginners like me loll
hope this help anyone that have had the same problem i did.
