Why doesn't workflow have a simple convert PDF to TIFF file action?

If I need to convert a PDF to a Tiff in Workflow I have to set allow multiple renditions on a lot of my document types. The alternative is to use the create a new document option but if I want this to work on any given document I CAN'T.

The pdf document already has a document type. Why can't it just do a simple conversion? OR allow the document type to be set by a property.

One solution is to create an if statement for every doc type and create the pdf/tiff  action with the specific doc type in each one.

Is there a better way?

Hi Anthony

There is a special license to allow access to  the "Create PDF/TIFF File" action.  This action will do exactly what you want.  Check it out in the WF MRG.

Good Luck

Hi Scott, we have the license and I see that action in Studio. The thing that scares me is having to write a system task for each document type since I would prefer not to have multiple renditions. I may have to script my way out of this one and do without the license.

Anthony,
Why not have an action to create a new document and then have another action to delete the document? This would keep you from having multiple renditions (or having to update your doc types to allow renditions), while also allowing you to change the file format of the document in question.
Through a system task, you could set this up for a whole bunch of doc types!
If you wanted verification that the new document was created, before deleting the original pdf, you could search for related and if it exists, then delete the original doc; if not, show a message to the user that the tiff was not successfully created.

Hi Corinthia, the problem is that the action to create a new document from pdf to tiff requires that you specify the document type so I would have to create a system task for every document type I want to convert (so this is possible but would be a major hassle).
