Hi there,
I guess, nobody posted an answer because they know the answer should be obvious, but just for sake of completeness Smiley Happy

Alfresco is a DMS / ECMS / (WCMS) with various collaborations and personalisations extensions. It uses standards to allow for interfacing with other components like a data repository (JSR 170) and a portal software (JSR 168). It is NOT a portal, which integrates JSR 168 portlets (yet - who knows).

One thing I like about alfresco is - it lets everyone do, what he/she can do best.
