Manage translations with Crowdin

Hello,

Crowdin is a new online translation platform and is free for opensource projects.
Crowdin allows to upload message files and download updated files via commandline interface.

It would be great if you, Alfresco, would manage the translation for all languages in this tool, so that the community can contribute.
What do you think about it?

Thanks,
Jens

There is already a CrowdIn project for Alfresco. It is referenced on this wiki page:
https://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Language_Pack_Development

Or link directly to the CrowdIn project here:

Hi Jeff,

currently the crowdin project only contains a few languages. How to push german language pack to it?
I really don´t like some translations in the current version (and customers always ask to change them)…

Thanks,
Jens

Hi Jens,

Thanks for the feedback. I work quite closely with Gloria, our localisation manager & I think crowd sourcing translations is a great way to start a language pack (it's where our Russian one started), but when it comes to maintaining them, ensuring consistency and a commitment to on-going support, I think our current policy of internal maintenance, professional translators and partner validation is probably the best approach.

That doesn't mean you can't contribute to improving them, we always welcome community input & I regularly fix issues in language packs raised by community members. Just like with our wider code base, if you see something that you think isn't quite right, is missing, or could be more accurately translated, then visit http://issues.alfresco.com, raise a ticket and either Gloria or I will look at it.

Thanks,
David.

Hi David,

thanks for clarification. What about partner validation? How can I take part? I work for fme AG, Platinum Partner in Germany.
I don´t want to create a JIRA ticket for each single translation issue. IMO, it is overhead for you and me.

Thanks,
Jens

Hi Jens,

Thanks for the offer, if you drop me an email (david.webster@alfresco.com ) with your details in, I'll pass it on to Gloria.

David.
