Is Alfresco suitable to manage several folders?

Hi all,

I'm new to alfresco and I would like to know if it could be the right solution for my case:

I have folders (thousands of them), each folder contains a variable number of documents (1 to 20) and each document has between 1 and 20 pages.

How can I manage these folder/document architecture in Alfresco ?

I was thinking about creating a space for each folder and add documents as content for that space (space = folder). So is this a good organization for my folders? is Alfresco designed to handle thousands of spaces? (and counting!) (spaces (folders) should visible to all registered users).

One more thing, can I add more indexes to a space (not only name and title), so I can find it easily through the search form?

Thank you

The organisation of your spaces is up to you and your requirements, do whatever suits.

Spaces would allow you to define rules, actions and access control for different sets of documents or group similar documents together.   But if you just want to handle all documents the same then it doesn't matter whether you have multiple
spaces or multiple folders within a space.       It sounds like you may just need a single space which contains thousands of folders.

Alfresco will easily handle these numbers of documents.

You can add your own properties.

Thank you mrogers for your answer.

It sounds more organized to put all folders in  a space. I was able to create some spaces under a space. Are sub-spaces what you call folders? (I didn't found how creating folders under a space).

How can I add custom parameters to a folder (or a space, I'm confused  :? ), one more thing, can I make a search for a folder through the value of a custom parameter?

Thank you

Yes, for your case space=folder.

Really a space is a superset of a folder.

Alright, but I can't found where to create something called "folder".

Anyways, I'll deal with sub-spaces as folders.

The second part of my question was how to add custom parameters to spaces and can I make a search for a space according to these parameters.

Thank you
