Inline edit missing in 4.2.d

I've just installed the latest 4.2d CE to see if it fixes the problem in 4.2c where the Inline Edit option didn't work at all. Interestingly, in 4.2d, while I can inline edit a TXT file without problem, the Inline edit option is now totally gone for .doc and .docx files. It's just not visible at all.

I know 4.2d isn't officially released yet, but is this by design, or is it waiting to be fixed?

Hi,
I'm able to see the inline edit option 4.2 d release.
I don't have MS office 2010 is not installed in my machine, so I'm getting the following error. And this error is expected only.

"The file 'Changes in search.doc' could not be opened for online editing. One of the following plugins required to be installed in your browser.
    For Windows: Microsoft Office 2010
For Mac OS X: SharePoint Browser Plug-in"

Ah, ok. I didn't install the Sharepoint functionality (didn't think it was needed). Is this required for inline editing of MS Word docs?
