How long it should take to restart Alfresco?

Hi.

As the topic says, how much it should take to restart Alfresco? I mean /opt/Alfresco/alf_stop.sh and then alf_start.sh?

I have downloaded binary package for Linux from Alfresco web site and installed it. Then I start alf_start.sh script and it takes over 5 minutes until Alfresco loads. I have 1 gig memory and AMD Athlon XP 1800+ (bogomips   : 3067.05).

I tried Alfresco also on another computer, 1.5GB RAM and Amd Sempron 2800+ ( bogomips   : 3215.76).
It takes veeeeeeeeeeeeery long to start Alfresco.

Is there anything what I can do to make Alfresco start much faster?
I mean, I am trying to develop with it but every time when I need to restart Alfresco, it takes about 5 to 7 minutes. Even if I make error on model file, it takes 5 minutes until I get that error on log…

Has anyone other same kind of problems, or is my PC just too old to run Alfresco?

That's even longer than my laptop

Some things to check.
a) if you have a virus scanner, turn it off for reading files.
b) A bit more memory will help. 1G is a bit small these days.
c) You may be able to "detune" alfresco by reducing the size of the various thread pools and turning off services and subsystems that you don't need.  For development this is fine.  Out of the box Alfresco is configured to be a fairly big and substantial system.
d) Check your JVM is fairly recent, they have got faster over the years.
e) You may be able to free up space on your PC by stopping programs and services that you don't need.
f) Use the enterprise version which allows you to configure the common stuff without the need for a restart.

Well, I had installed newest from Ubuntu repository (Ubuntu 9.04), eg. Sun java packages.

Well, there is no many processes running, so it wont help Smiley Frustrated
