Easy customization of Alfresco

Hi guys,
iḿ two weeks old to Alfresco and CMS and I´m trying to clarify some concepts about Alfresco customization.
I´d like to understand how many ways there are to realize a customization for share and at which level they works.

Currently I´ve only seen how to create a Dashboard.
My purpose is to understand what is the easiest way to add functionalities to a share or to a site ( for example the management of a newsletter).

I think that this is a big topic, but I hope that with your experience you can help me in resolving this problem, so that after I can help someone else.
Many thanks,
Nicoletta

You can add dashlets, which it sounds like you've already seen. You can also add new Pages. So, for example, if you wanted something to be in your Share Site at the same level as the document library or the wiki or the link list, you can do that.

There is not currently anything exhaustive on making these types of customizations. You can start with some admittedly old documentation on Surf, which is the framework underlying Share. You might also be interested in some of the new Share extensibility features in Alfresco 4.

There are several other DevCon presentations on SlideShare that may also be helpful.

David Draper's blog is also a good resource.

After that, you've just got to start hacking.
