Hello,
My company is checking out Alfresco and I downloaded the full windows package (3.0.0 Stable 1526) this week and installed it on a Win2K3 server in our enterprise. The setup went relatively smoothly and I'm using it with a MySQL database and everything else pretty much default. I'm able to check documents in and out and manage spaces as needed.
My problem is in using the MS Word add-in and downloaded files. The add-on installed with no errors and I'm using what I think is the correct configuration.
Web client URL is: http://172.x.x.x:8080/alfresco/
WebDAV URL is: http://172.x.x.x:8080/alfresco/webdav/
CIFS Server is: \\alfresco_a\alfresco\
admin credentials work as well.
I take the following steps:
1. Check out a document
2. Download and save it locally with the same name as the working copy. It is read/write
3. Open the Alfresco add-on
The add-on page displays the error:
The current document is not managed by Alfresco.
If I create a new document and save it, I can then use the add-in to save the document to Alfresco and fully manage it. Also, if I click "details" and then "edit online", I can modify the file remotely fine. One caveat is I am using Word 2007 and I realize Alfresco doesn't support it, but, our company is using Office 2007 and I don't have any other choices.
I'm a newbie with Alfresco and can see that I may be doing something wrong, but, I feel like I've tried about everything. My ultimate goal is to download a document from Alfresco and manage it totally using the Alfresco add-in.
Thanks for any help!
Paul

Hi
The problem is in your Step 2. As far as the add-in is concerned, you've just loaded up any-old Word document that happened to be on your local drive. It has no idea it was downloaded from Alfresco. The good news is that you can skip steps 1 and 2 altogether (1 is optional, 2 is causing the problem).
You can check-out documents directly from the add-in window, or look at the "My Checked Out Documents" list and load the document from there. The add-in will then recognise it as being loaded from Alfresco.
Please see: http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Microsoft_Office
(which needs updating with the new tagging function - apologies!)
Edit: Forgot to mention that you might also want to take a look at our native Sharepoint protocol support, which although not yet 100% complete will eventually mean you won't need the separate add-in install.
Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
Thanks for the quick and helpful reply! I'll check out the Sharepoint functionality as well.

Hi,
thats nice…but not a real workflow for users.
They would like to search the file on the web, checkout and edit and it should end up in word and can be edited and checked in from there.
The supplied add-in is sweet, but the window is much too small to really work efficently with it. I doubt that the "normal" users will accept that.
Any idea?
Thanks
