Cross-subnet CIFS

Hi,

We are currently reviewing Alfresco 2.1R1 on Linux, and are curious about its use across multiple subnets.

Currently, we are only able to access the CIFS share when we are on the subnet that has the server hosting the demo - obviously at \\server_a. This fails to work when on another subnet, and we are unable to access it using \\ip.of.ser.ver notation either. We are able to access our other servers using CIFS/SMB by IP address, but not our Alfresco one.

Other than setting up a WINS server, is there any way to make the server available over multiple subnets?

Kyle,

I've used Alfresco CIFS across sub-nets / separate network segments using just the IP notation; for me it just worked.  However, I am running Alfresco on a Linux server where it is the only CIFS/SMB service running.

Are you running on a Windows server by any chance?  In this case your Windows server is probably also trying to offer CIFS/SMB & NetBIOS services.  There are a number of issues involved here, and a number of possible solutions: which is appropriate will depend upon your precise circumstances, but it's not unduly difficult.

The place to start is with the following:

If you're running under Tomcat, the relevant configuration file will be
${ALFRESCO_HOME}\tomcat\shared\classes\alfresco\extension\file-servers-custom.xml

Many thanks for the quick answer.

After all, it turned out to be a daft firewall issue. It's all working swimmingly now 🙂
