Nuxeo has a REST API which your intranet can use to do searches in Nuxeo. You would have to decide how to authenticate though. Maybe portal_sso (see http://answers.nuxeo.com/questions/1002/how-do-i-integrate-with-nuxeo-platform-login-portal-sso-in-my-portal) could be of use to you.
