topic Alfresco Migration from 6.2 to 7.4 in Alfresco Forum

Hello,

We currently have a alfresco entrerpise license for the 6.2. As a developer (I don't have the details about our license contract), I have some questions :

- Do we need a new license for the 7.4 ? It seems odd to me that we should have a new license each time, we want to migrate ?

- Is it possible to migrate from enterprise to community ? The upgrade path doesn't mention that but I saw some posts that tell it is possible.

To be more precise, we use the alfresco in-process sdk and we have some heavy developments on it. The deployment is entirely on-premise and custom.

Hi RH -

Yes, there is a different license for Alfresco 7.4 vs Alfresco 6.2. Depending on how your company has set up the contract with Hyland, you can simply ask for a new license to be generated for 7.4 and that should take care of matters for you.

In terms of migrating from Enterprise to Community, that may be possible depending on what features you are using in Enterprise. I have not ever done that, but I think much of the problem would be in migrating your existing relational database - you might have to set up Community and then load the tables using your Enterprise data - I believe that there may be extra attributes present in the Enterprise database that are not present in Community, however, it would be good if someone who knows that for sure could weigh in.

Best of luck!

Kevin Dorr

President, Alfresco User Group
