"Alfresco Community Edition doesn't support clustering of repository (backend tier). It doesn't check if your database is clustered. You can cluster different tiers of solution, but do you really need it?

"

Sorry haven't reply you for a while as I am focusing on database tuning.

I just want our Alfresco do not have single point of failure, now we are running Alfresco 5.0, quite old.

on our design it is the ONLY piece of component has single point of failure so we have to avoid it.

and yes, it should be right that HOW Alfresco community edition 5.0 check that out if our database, like MariaDB, is running galaria cluster?

"Basically you have different tiers: Share as a frontend, Repository as a backend, Solr for indexing, database for metadata storage and some other stuff (like tranformation, messaging) and each tier can run on a different server if you want to. Therefore it is hard to answer your questions when one doesn't know the details."

I am not sure how can I run Alfresco app tier in a cluster mode so one node down is not going to kill the whole alfresco platform.

That;s why we have to make as much component cluster/scalble as possible.

"Regarding minimum HW requirements it depends on the setup. It will run on 2 cores with 6GB of RAM, but definitely not for the production. Do you want to run it as a Docker? Or install it manually?

Here https://github.com/Alfresco/acs-deployment/blob/master/docker-compose/community-docker-compose.yml you can see that 12GB of RAM is recommended and you can see memory limits for each component."

we will need a UAT platform and PROD platform for any verison starting from 5.2 as we are using 5.0, not very much can be done?

what is the benefit to run alfresco on docker if we do not have a cloud platform? only local server/VM running windows for Alfresco ?

May I have one more question ? we are using 5.0 community edition, what is the POSSIBLE upgrade path from 5. 0 to 7.0 community.

right now what we are doing is to separate each tier.

1) 1 x VM for Application

2) 1 x VM for database

3) separate the content store to a NAS instead of all in local server.

Hi Sanjay,

- Install the Alfresco 6.0 first and do not start it.

- Take a dump of database of 5.0

- Point to the alf_data folder of 5.0 by making changes in the alfresco-global.properties file in 6.0

- Restore the dump to 6.0

- start the 6.0 server check whether the contents and other properties are properly working or not.

- Try to apply the customizations - (This may require little changes in your custom code)

- If they are working well then you're lucky else you might need to prepare your package using compatible sdk.

hi,

So this means for community edition, Alfresco and PostgreSQL must be in the SAME box in community edition?

the point now is, we are using v 5.0 community edition and it is unstable all the time, so even we upgrade we can only run on that SAME box we run v 5.0 ?

May I know:

1) any way to check which cause slow ? what troubleshooting tools is recommended?

2) we can't upgrade directly from 5.0 to 6.2, right ? must be first upgrade from 5.0 to 5.2 , then 5.2 ot 6.2?

 where can we download 5.2 ? https://sourceforge.net/projects/alfresco/files/ ?

uprade path: https://docs.alfresco.com/content-services/latest/upgrade/ is correct ?

3) from 5.0 to 5.2 , what is the need to know , known issue, and procedure to upgrade?

4) What is the version of PostgreSQL once we upgrade from 5.0 to 5.2 and 5.2 to 6.2 ? I assume the PostgreSQL upgraded will have nothing lost ?

5) what OS is recommended for Alfresco

1) PostrgreSQL can be installed on a different server - this blog post, altho old & relating to 5.0, shows how. See here too.

2) OS - linux is the most commonly used.

3) Troubleshooting - quite old but useful information.
I suppose some of these might be possible but are not supported OOTB. There are obviously limits to the number and type of DB options any software project is able to support. That said, I'm sure you could find others to help support your efforts if you started a project to enable percona pxc support for Alfresco Community Edition.

Can Alfresco community 6.0/6.2 run on top of MariaDB community edition ?

I am not sure if the Software has to run on top of MariaDB enterprise edition ?

can Alfresco community 5.2/6.2 run on top of SQL server 2016-2019 standard or enterprise edition ?

Alfresco Community Edition can be configured to use Maria DB.

No, Community Edition can not run against SQL Server. The Enterprise ACS can use SQL Server.

Regards,

Community Edition doesn't support clustering OOTB.

Enterprise supported platforms information is here. ACS 7 supports Window server 2019.
