Probably the better resources (even better than that book including the name of Jeff in the cover) are available at

There are working samples and a detailed explanation on how to start developing with Alfresco.

Thanks for your response. I have to admit that for me, following the online documentation is quite difficult, and I often find myself going around in circles. That's why I was looking for something to tie it all together, and hopefully the book can do that.

It's quite disappointing to see the lack of technical books on Alfresco. There's also nothing on Pluralsight, in terms of video tutorials, and the odd Youtube video I did come across was out of date.
