5.8 is already really out (in IT terms). We're already at 5.12 and has a way easier way of installing.

Yes, This is true but I have to work on an existing project developed in 5.8. Therefore, working on Activiti 5.8 is the only option for me now. Please help me fixing the below mentioned problem.

Well, it seems the database isn't running.

Did you try running 'ant db.start' (or something alike) first to make sure it isn't the database itself wchich isnt booting for some reason?
