I got the same error when i forgot to configure

dir.root=/var/lib/alfresco/alf_data

in "custom-repository.properties"

My lack of understanding shows when I ask:

So after telling Tomcat6 to deploy the alfresco.war file - there is no custom-repository.properties in the tomcat6 directory structure where the alfresco.war file is deployed. Thus to correct the error at the top of this thread - how do I get the custom-repository.properties file in place so I can then (after proper instruction) have the dir.root directory.

Hello,
Did you solve the problem. I am facing the same. I have created project in eclipse by taking code thru svn.
I changed Repository/config/lfresco/extension/custom-repository.properties.sample to custom-repository.properties and set dir.root, but still no getting the same error while running tomcat thru eclipse.
Can u please share the solution????
