Throwing User defined Message in Web scripts

I am having the User Defined 404 Messages in my Web script. I have my .404.ftl also , but, File is not getting called and not showing the message. Instead I am getting browser 404 Message.Am I missing anything, any help is appricited.Thanks in advance

Some browsers, such as IE will show the default message unless the returned page is over a certain size.

You could try adding some more content to the 404.ftl file to see if this helps.

If you post the code from your webscript, we can see if we can spot something.
