If you are deploying the WAR into your own tomcat installation without using a supplied Alfresco tomcat bundle, then you need to add the MySQL driver JAR to tomcat\common\lib - you can download it from:
http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/j/3.1.html

Thanks Kevin, it works now.

I was wondering if the functionality of Alfresco can be extended, lets say using Macromedia Flex for example.

Any thoughts on that?
