I have installed Alfresco community edition 2.1, but I can't get it to run. When I first installed it I used the default database, HSQL, and everything seemed to work find. When I switched over to MySQL (v. 5.0.45) I started receiving the following errorEVERE: Error listenerStartOct 24, 2007 9:19:

There is a bug in 2.1 where this execption 'Failure during rollback:' hides the real error. It's probably one of two things:
. When you switched to MySQL - did you also remove the tomcat/bin/alf_data directory when you created your new MySQL DB schema? As otherwise it will still have some data from your usage with HSQL.
. Can you confirm you MySQL DB connection is working? Make sure you have the JDBC driver JAR in tomcat and make sure the connection is working (i.e. that the db_setup.sql has been run)

If you take a nightly build of Alfresco, it may help you identify the error as the real error should be shown in the log.
http://dev.alfresco.com/downloads/nightly/dist/

Thanks,

Kevin

Thanks for the help, I think your first suggestion solved my problem. However, I'm still a little confused. I downloaded Alfresco community 2.1 that was packaged with Tomcat, unpacked it, followed the instructions in README_mysql.txt and I would receive the errors I posted above. I didn't think the alf_data directory would store data that would interfere with the MySQL configuration when everything is freshly unzipped. So I actually pursued your second suggestion. Fortunately, one of my co-workers went the other way and found out that if he deleted the contents of alf_data/hsql and then ran db_remove.sql and db_setup.sql, that Alfresco could then start up.

So the reason for this post, besides just posting the solution that worked for us, is that I'm curious if some of the contents of alfresco-community-tomcat-2.1.0.zip interfere with a MySQL configuration. And if so, could some extra steps be added to README_mysql.txt?

Thanks.
