I'm using Alfresco 1.4.0 community on Fedora 4 with Java 1.6.0 u1 and Jboss 4.5. JBoss is used for Alfresco and 2 othe applications. Thanks for the idea. My Alfresco is run by the jboss user which had only 1024 file handles so I reset it to 4096. I hope it solves the problem. Anyway, since I plan an upgrade to 2.0.x soon, it may also go away with the new Lucene.

I just want to confirm that after I applied the above procedure the error did not happen again. 4096 was the right value in my case.
