Please make sure you read and understand the terms of the license for the free Community version of Alfresco - the footer and images should not be modified without permission.

about not modifying header and footer images?

Just my 2 cents, a company trying out Alfresco community addition, would want to customize header and footer as per the requirements.

Why should a company just 'trying out' Alfresco be so eager to get rid of the logo that identifies the creator of the software?

I'm also looking into Alfesco. I will be happy to (and plan to) include the "Content managed by Alfesco" logo at the footer of my community install. However, may I also mention my site name and remove the part about this being "unsupported and unmaintained" in the footer?

My understanding of the GPL is that this is possible but the sequence within this thread has confused the issue - I've read the FAQ but still want an official stance.

Ai other places of this forum this is an issue with many positions of the users. Most of them try to let the Alfresco Community logo but they do not want that the other text: "Supplied free of charge with no support, no certification, no maintenance, no warranty and no indemnity by Alfresco or its Certified Partners. Click here for support. Alfresco Software Inc. Â© 2005-2006 All rights reserved." does not appear.

According the GPL and Alfresco rules for use of his logo, the Alfresco Community and the message "Alfresco Software Inc. Â© 2005-2006 All rights reserved." must appear at the community edition.

The best and clean way to do that is making a compile process from the sources.

I think that the logo and the rights message must appear. In fact is the most honest way to present the product to customers if you are supporting or installing the Community Edition.

The other way (iÂ´m not really sure) is to negotiate an OEM license.

But, by other way, the customization (no for put it out the logo) of the footer should be more simple. Some companies want to put other messages instead the NO messages, because internally that can cause many issues and questions by his users.

If you are using version 1.4 or earlier (MPL + Attribution), you cannot remove attribution. It needs to both have the logo and the accompanying text.

If you are using version 2.0 or later (GPL), then you can remove the logo and attribution. That is a fundamental right that the GPL affords. We hope that you'll be proud to display the Alfresco logo, but you don't have to under the GPL.
