I have a freemarker template that points to a ftl that is a link to another ftl. I have noticed it does not "follow" the shortcut. It seems to read the shortcut file directly and try to process the text placed in it. This also occurs if you reference an image that is actually a shortcut to anothe

Unfortunately the "shortcuts" are currently only really supported by the web-client application and not the core Alfresco services. There is some support in the core APIs (FileFolderService has a way to check if a node is a shortcut) but we haven't added support to the end-point services such as Templating and Script services to walk the shortcuts if they find one. I've raised a JIRA item for this:
http://issues.alfresco.com/browse/AR-1485

Thanks for bringing this up.

Cheers,

Kevin
