Getting e-mails to work

Hello there,Please could someone help me. I have installed Alfresco into my windows server. The program is just fantastic, the only problem i'm getting is the e-mailing componant. I have gone through everything I can find on the web and I cant find answers. How do you setup the e-mail config in Alfr

Hi

You will need a SMTP server, which you have access to. Windows might have one running.

Settings to access this SMTP server are set in repository.properties (or custom-repository.properties)

As Alexander points out, Alfresco does not come with its own mail server, so you will have to use an exiting server, or install one. According to what I've read, it can not connect to a secure server. I installed Postfix on the server running alfresco and added a file to my extension folder with the email settings. In my case, I am using tomcat and the extension folder is:

/var/lib/tomcat5.5/shared/classes/extension

Name your file something like email.properties or custom-repository.properties and include the below with
the settings for your mail server…

# Email configuration
mail.host= mymailhost
mail.port=25
mail.username=anonymous
mail.password=

Thanks for the reply guys,

I have set up the SMTP server, tested and all working. Then when I send a mail in Alfresco nothing seems to happen. If it were a hospital this would be considered a flat line. HA HA. Any ideas?

Any messages in the log regarding mail? Normally something should be logged.

Also, when using …\extension to override properties, need to create entry in custom-db-and-data-context.xml (not required if using repository.properties in webapps)

There is some additional information in the system administer documentation. You need to register to download this guide. There are 3 guides in total, which are well worth downloading.

I did not use the "anonymous" account, and used a real user name and password and all has worked fine. I did not need to change the mail port either.
