A really useful feature, for me at least, would be to be able to apply workflows to the check in process and to track that process. Tracking the workflow process would be useful in general.This would be my ideal history of a document and what would be recordedocument created by User1 and this is

AWC-356, AWC-382 and AWC-433 in Jira and see if they would fulfil your requirements.

I looked through Jira for something like I'm interested in regarding the recording of workflows and check in workflows and neither seem to be requested by anyone else. Should I explain what I'm interested more thoroughly or do you understand what I'm going for?

This makes good sense. We are adding more robust workflow support with an integration with jBPM. We will be providing more robust workflow support through jBPM as you noted in your mail to enable a user to route one or multiple assets through a multi-stage review and test process where at any point a rejection can restart the editing cycle anew (basically, the document or documents are always contained within a workflow and can go backwards and forwards an unbounded # of times with each step in the workflow capable of sending email notification and of being recorded in an audit trail.

In mid-summer, we plan on releasing a preview release of our web content management extensions that will leverage this core integration with jBPM to provide out of the box sample editorial review processes such as the one you described. More details on those processes will be posted to our wiki in April.

I see that Workflow History is implemented in 2.1.0. How can I see the history for a content item?

Also, is there an option to add a comment upon changing the workflow state?
Put differently, how can I allow reviews to share their comments/reasons for changing the workflow state of a content item?

You can see the history of a workflow from any task dialog - there's an outline bar near the bottom of the page which can be expanded.

Right now, you can see which workflows a piece of content is part of, by viewing the content properties page, but you can't yet drill down on any of those workflows listed.

Comments are now supported out-of-the-box. You'll see a comment entry-box in each task dialog. Previous comments may be viewed via the history outline bar.
