Action to finalize a document

Hello,is there a build-In functionality, to make a document "read only" for owner or to finalize this.The need is to make content to a "stable target" for resusing or reference.I can imagine that with a script and custom action it's possible to add this functionality. So the current owner will run "

This really needs an answer.
It is starting to look like there is no way to "publish" a document, in a way that prevents new versions being uploaded.
I would like to use Share to version documents, until they are finished being edited. Then lock them permanently once they are complete.

Is this really not possible?

Hi there

Did you eventually find a solution to this? My current solution to this, apparently, missing function is this:

<li> Have a main document repository, where all documents are secured PDFs. </li>
<li> All users' default permission in that repository is going to be "consumer". </li>
<li> There will be specific areas/folders within which users will have editorial rights. (This is possible since you can edit folder permissions, to not inherit those of the parent folder/site).
These areas will be where drafts are approved/rejected. Once approved, they will be moved into the main repository, where only the administrator will be able to edit them. </li>
<li> I have rules in these folders. E.G. a document that has been approved is automatically moved into the approved folder, and converted to a PDF. </li>

Note: I have been unable, so far, to find the area in Alfresco's settings that would allow me to automatically secure the PDFs, in the Alfresco conversion process.

To make a document "read only" is a permissions issue.   The bit you may be struggling with is the permissions of the "owner" of a document. The person who creates a document has extra permissions because they are the owner.
Just remove the cmwner property or set it to a dummy user like "system".

You can also "lock" documents in various ways.

Publish tends to be a WCM term where you publish a document out to an external channel.   That's supported too in various ways.
