Contributions are certainly welcome.
If you have a Activiti developer account I would suggest doing the development on a branch.
If not any repo will do and I'll merge it into the trunk when you're done.

I advice you to start with 1 specific request like e.g. the bug you mentioned or the user creation rest call. Work that out on a branch. Then solicit for feedback.

Hi!, i'm a msalices' cowoker, and i would like to apply for a developer account like you said in the previus post, but i don't see the proper link "apply for a developer account" that you say at http://xircles.codehaus.org/projects/activiti.
About your advice to start from specific request, just say, that we are working, improving and creating the new methods in the rest api that we think we need their while we create the portal web. If you want, i can send, or post a list of new capabilities that we have created so far.
