i am confused here about some thing in alfresco…1. how to create an admin other than the default? so that i can see the admin console?2. when add a user in the manage user space action i found that for example "user" with "all" and when i add aanother user i dont see this option "all" so i have to a

No need to create the Admin.It is defaultly there while installing.
If u create the user for the home space the user has all the five permissions(defaultly set as All).so no need to give permission again

i dont think you got my questions. i need to create a second admin for the first question and fo the second question, if i need to assign users to any space i will have to choose 5 permissions without having the option "all" in the list for time matter.

Ok fine.Create a user and give Permission (ie,Coordinator using Manage Space Users) from the Admin .Now the User will act as a another Admin.

I found out by myself: change alfresco.war/WEB-INF/classes/alfresco/authority-services-context.xml:

<property name="adminUsers">
            <set>
             <value>admin</value>
             <value>administrator</value>

             <value>yourAdmin</value>
           </set>
        </property>

Does this mean that there is no way to create another administrator (user with access to administration console) using Alfresco/Share UI?

Hi there,

If you want to create a second Alfresco Administrator account, just create the account and add it to the 'ALFRESCO_ADMINISTRATORS' security group. You can use Explorer's Group Management administration page to do this.

That was the very first thing I tried, but i does not work for me. Maybe I'm just special but both the users I tried this with do not get the Admin Console displayed unless I list them in the defaultAdminNames property.

That's odd. We use it here all the time and it always works – on the Explorer side anyway (NB: We don't use Share yet so I haven't tried it there.) Every time we install a new test instance, for example, we'll create admin accounts for the necessary users (developers, test leads, etc.) so that each of them can access the Admin page to create test accounts, query nodes, etc. Maybe I am just not understanding the problem. Good luck! BTW, we're using Alfresco Enterprise 3.3.x.

Just to add on you post. This is also working for Share as well.
I have tried adding user to "ALFRESCO_ADMINISTRATORS" and user will have all the rights as Admin.
Version: Alfresco 3.4.d

I'll reply to this older thread in the hope of saving others time in sorting this all out.

We experienced the same problem in 4.0.a [fresh install, Centos 6 x64]. If I created a new user and added that user to the Alfresco_Administrators group in Explorer, the admin panel was not available when logged in as the new user either in Explorer or Share.

We found that all was well if the user was created in Share and added to the Alfresco_Administrators group. Logged on as the new user in the Alfresco_Administrators group the admin panel is available both in Share and Explore.

In other words, create the second admin user in Share, add to the Alfresco_Administrators group, save and everything should work as expected.
