How to creates an external url link?

I want add a content item that link to external web page (http://www.google.com).This content item will be in the same space with other content types ( pdf, txt, jpg,…)Is this possible?Thanks,Alexandria

I have the same need. Why could you add it as default type? It is important for environements where you not have all documents in the same reporsitory (e.g. knowledge Management)

Well, what features do you expect from a URL content type? What do you want to do? Isn't it more common to list URLs for resources in a document rather than adding them as separate objects?

I have the same need within my company as well. I'm in the process of building a custom content type (that extends cm:content), and will post my results here in the forum when complete.

My goal is to allow a user to use the "Create" button for a space, select "Link" under Type and just drop in a URL. It turns out that if you change the name of the link to be suffixed by ".url" or ".lnk", it automatically uses the same link icon as links to folders and files.

I wouldn't hold my breath for the solution, though. I'm somewhat of an Alfresco noob when it comes to this stuff.

Well. ThatÂ´s an easy one: create content in HTMl. There you can place URL links to external docs and resources.

Interesting, I didn't get notified by email as people replied to this thread. Anyways, I've abandoned my approach above and am taking a new one. If a user creates HTML content in Alfresco with the following contents:

<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url=http://www.apple.com">
</head>
<body>
</body>
</html>‍‍‍‍‍‍‍

the title of the HTML content becomes a link to apple.com in the example above.

I was thinking of creating a custom wizard that asks the user for a URL, then uses the contents above in an HTML content piece (with the appropriate URL of course). I still haven't done it, it's scoped for a later iteration of our project.

why could we have not simple a field where we can enter an url link? Something like:

MS Sharepoint can do this! Mixing documents and links…………….
