The docs explain why this is the case.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;You need to look at &lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;A href="http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/CIFS_Server_Authentication" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"&gt;http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/CIFS_Server_Authentication&lt;/A&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;You could use the passthru authenticator.       <title>Enabling LDAP authentication</title>

      <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Thanks, that's helpful for configuring it but I still don't see how to turn it on in the first place.&amp;nbsp; I've tried renaming ldap-authentication-context.xml.sample to ldap-authentication-context.xml but then I get this lovely error on startup.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;ERROR [alfresco.smb.protocol] CIFS server configuration error, Wrong authentication setup for alfresco authenticator&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;org.alfresco.error.AlfrescoRuntimeException: Wrong authentication setup for alfresco authenticator&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;I would assume that there's some place where I need to tell it to use ldap instead of the default authentication.&amp;nbsp; Any hints?&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>
